Jose Hermoza

Professor Jose Hermoza is widely recognized as one of the most decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) competitors in the New England Region, with over 17 years of experience in the sport. He is revered in the BJJ community for his mastery of the art and his impressive track record as a competitor.

His journey in Martial Arts began in Lima, Peru, where he was born and raised. He practiced in his native city of Lima Kung Fu, Karate, Judo and gymnastics. He eventually moved to the United States and began training at Brazilian Top Team (BTT) Boston under the tutelage of Professor Daniel Gazzoni. During this time, he sharpened his skills and developed a deep understanding of the intricacies of the sport, which helped prepare him for his many victories to come.

Professor Hermoza’s competitive career spans over a decade and has been characterized by incredible achievements, including winning the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship, securing four No-Gi PanAm titles, winning five titles at the IBJJF Boston Open in every BJJ Belt, securing two titles in the European Championship in Rome, Italy and medaling in over 65 IBJJF competitions. His profound understanding of the art enabled him to compete at the highest level.

Professor Hermoza has dedicated his life to BJJ. To share his knowledge with others, he decided to open Brazilian Top Team Westford, a BJJ and Muay Thai academy that focuses on developing top-level athletes, as well as providing a positive and welcoming environment for beginners. With his vast experience, he provides a structured curriculum that lays a solid foundation of knowledge for all students, regardless of their skill level or age.

 

His love for the sport is contagious, and he encourages his students to develop their own style while sticking to the core principles and values of the martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He believes in empowering his students by bringing out the best in them, both mentally and physically, to help them lead better lives through discipline and perseverance.
